Telephone
counseling is available for people who are unable to
come into the office due to distance or other limitations.
Sessions are arranged as if the client is coming into
the office, by appointment only. A trained therapist
is able to listen to the client's voice tone, cadence,
emotional quality, usage of words, and other subtle
qualities to help the person understand and resolve
problems that they may have been struggling with for
years, in a relatively brief period of time. Telephone
counseling is, however, generally less effective than
in office visits, as the therapist is unable to see
the person's body language, facial expressions, gestures,
skin tone and other non-verbal ways of communicating
that help the therapist understand the client at deeper
levels. Although telephone counseling may be less effective
and more limited than in office visits, it is still
very beneficial and highly effective in treating a wide
variety of therapeutic issues.
